Cocoa Kiss Cookies

1 cup (2 sticks) butter or regular margarine, softened
2/3 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 2/3 cups flour
1/4 cup cocoa
1 cup finely chopped pecans
about 54 milk chocolate kisses
powdered sugar

  1. Beat the butter, sugar, and vanilla in a large bowl until creamy. Stir together the flour and cocoa. Gradually add to the butter mixture. Beat well until well blended.
  2. Add the pecans. Beat until well blended again. Refrigerate the dough for about one hour or until firm enough to handle.
  3. Heat the oven to 375 F. Remove the wrappers from the chocolate kisses. Mold a scant tablespoonful of the dough around each chocolate kiss. Cover completely.
  4. Shape into balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until set. Cool for 1 minute. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack to finish cooling. Roll in the powdered sugar.
