Onion Batter Bread
2 cakes yeast
2 cups lukewarm water
2 Tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons soft butter
1 package onion-soup mix
4 1/2 cups flour
- Dissolve yeast in the water, with the sugar. Add the salt, butter, onion-soup mix and 3 cups of the flour. Beat for 2 minutes. Add rest of the flour and beat until very well blended. Cover bowl and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.
- Stir down and pour into a well-buttered 1 1/2 quart casserole. Cover and let rise again until doubled or until the batter reaches the top of the pan. Bake in a 375 degree F. oven for 50 to 55 minutes, or until browned and done.
- Turn out onto a rack and brush the top with melted or softened butter.
